Tailored Materials Launches With $2 Million In Equity

Tailored Materials Corporation, an emerging manufacturer of ultra-pure, carbon Double-Wall Nanotubes (DWNTs) for field emission displays and other devices, announced last Thursday that it raised $2 million in equity for its first round private financing, to commercialize and scale up its proprietary technology.

DOE AwardS $25 Million In Joint Biomass Research And Development Initiative

The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) last Friday announced the selection of 22 projects that will receive $25,480,628 for the Biomass Research and Development Initiative. Including the cost sharing of the private sector partners, the total value of the projects is nearly $38 million. The funds will be used for biomass research, development and demonstration projects.

Fewer than one in four registered voters in New Mexico - including under half (47 percent) of Republicans - favor a controversial U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plan to permit extensive oil and gas drilling in the fragile Otero Mesa region, which sits on top of an aquifer that could supply drinking water to 800,000 state residents, according to a new survey conducted by the Albuquerque-based Research & Polling, Inc. (RPI), for the nonprofit and nonpartisan Campaign to Protect America's Lands (CPAL).

Venezuelan government officials reacted sharply to a decision by the U.S. government agency Overseas Private Investment Corp., which ruled that the Venezuelan state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela Sociedad Anonima, had expropriated assets belonging to San Diego-based Science Applications International Corp. OPIC issued a ruling accepting SAIC's charge of PDVSA's expropriation of its assets and awarded SAIC an as yet undetermined amount of government compensation.
