PrimeStar Solar is pleased to have been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy for $3 million in funding over 18 months within the Solar America Initiative's, Photovoltaic Technology Incubator Program. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman announced the awards.

PrimeStar and DOE will partner to scale up NREL's world record 16.5% efficient cadmium telluride (CdTe) solar cell technology to commercial production. "PrimeStar Solar is focused on rapidly developing high-volume, low-cost manufacturing of high efficiency CdTe solar modules," said Dr. Fred Seymour, Director of PV Technology for PrimeStar Solar.

"Using proven technology, we plan to dramatically lower the cost of photovoltaic energy generation and open up new markets for this renewable energy source. Our plan aligns closely with the SAI Incubator Program objectives, and this endorsement as well as the support from the U.S. Department of Energy will accelerate our effort and propel us to a faster implementation."
