Bechtel to build solar plant in California

BrightSource Energy, developer of large-scale solar plants, has contracted with engineering giant Bechtel to build a 440-megawatt solar power station in California's Mojave Desert. Using a carbon nanotube instead of traditional silicon, Cornell researchers have created the basic elements of a solar cell that hopefully will lead to much more efficient ways of converting light to electricity than now used in calculators and on rooftops.     The world's largest solar plant is planned for the Mongolian desert of China. Arizona-based First Solar Inc. and Ordos City in China signed an agreement Tuesday to build what will be a 2-gigawatt solar installation.
