Japan's Showa Shell plans US, German solar energy business
Tokyo (AFP) March 1, 2010
Japanese oil refinery Showa Shell said Monday its solar energy subsidiary will expand into the United States and Germany in a bid to make clean energy a pillar of its business. Showa Shell Solar will set up offices in northern California and Munich in April to sell solar panels. Oerlikon Solar has announced that Gadir Solar is using its amorphous thin film silicon PV technology at the solar fabrication plant located in the bay of Cadiz, Spain. Gadir Solar's plant, one of the largest in Europe, began operation in October 2009. The company is ramping up in record time its annual production capacity of 40 MW, which is capable of producing about half a million PV panels per year.
