Sign of the times: Saudis go solar
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (UPI) Feb 14, 2013
Saudi Arabia, the world's leading oil producer, has completed its biggest solar power plant as the Persian Gulf petro-powers increasingly turn to solar energy and other renewables. Riyadh wants to generate one-third of the kingdom's electricity needs by 2032 to save 523,000 barrels of oil per day, currently used to fuel power stations, for export, particularly with oil prices at more than $100 a barrel.
