SunWize Systems has announced it has completed the installation of a roof-mounted solar project at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Corvallis, Oregon. It is the second largest solar installation in Benton County. An American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant of $491,000 from the United States Department of Energy helped fund the 70.38 kW solar electric system. "We are excited to partner with a solar innovator like SunWize and to have the opportunity to exhibit this critical renewable energy technology here on the fairgrounds," said Lonny Wunder, manager at Benton County Fairgrounds. "We hope this installation will help us inspire and educate students about solar during their time at the facility." The SunWize system is installed on the roof of a 25' x 30' educational facility, which will store all the system's electrical equipment behind glass windows to visibly educate the public about the equipment used and the output achieved. A computer with two touch screens will make the project interactive, and the building will feature a mural, "History of Energy," which will depict the evolution of energy from coal to solar. The mural is being created by students from Crescent Valley High School in collaboration with The Arts Center, a Corvallis non-profit. "We applaud the fairgrounds' commitment to educating students young and old about the benefits of renewable energy," said David Kaltsas, chief strategy officer at SunWize. "SunWize is proud to continue our history of installing solar systems in Oregon with this innovative Benton County Fairgrounds installation. We look forward to sharing one of the largest solar installations in Benton County with the community during the ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday."
