Bosnia landslide kills three: report

by Staff Writers
Sarajevo (AFP) Dec 5, 2010
Three people were killed in northern Bosnia on Sunday when their home collapsed due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains, national radio reported.

Rescue teams first found the body of a 48-year-old woman while her husband was found alive, BHR1 radio reported.

He sustained only minor injures, a Tuzla hospital doctor told AFP.

After several hours of fight to rescue his son and mother who were trapped in the rubble, police and firefighters eventually found their bodies.

The two-storey house in Tuzla slid some 100 metres (yards) downhill and collapsed in mud, FENA news agency reported, adding that several adjacent houses were also in danger.

Their inhabitants were evacuated immediately after the accident.

Heavy rains have caused floods in many parts of Bosnia in the past week, notably in the east and south, with thousands of people being evacuated from their homes.
