Capella Space Corp., a U.S.-based space technology company specializing in data and satellite solutions, announced it has secured a $15 million award from the U.S. Air Force through the AFWERX Ventures Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) program. This initiative is designed to drive private sector innovation and support U.S. Air Force mission objectives.

The funding will be used to further advance Capella Space's synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology. The STRATFI award will allow Capella to accelerate its product development and bring its next-generation SAR sensor to market. This new sensor will feature higher resolution capabilities and offer key enhancements requested by users, including reduced data delivery time via an improved data downlink system and dual-polarization functionality.

By advancing SAR polarimetry, Capella's technology will improve feature detection and classification across various industries, such as defense, agriculture, environmental monitoring, geology, oceanography, and disaster response. Additionally, the reduced latency and increased performance will enhance the capabilities of the U.S. Air Force, the Department of Defense, and commercial customers alike.

"As the first American commercial SAR imagery provider, we are excited to continue developing our leading technology to support the U.S. Air Force and its partners," said Frank Backes, CEO of Capella Space. "This award will further accelerate Capella's mission to deliver SAR data that is consistently high-quality, timely and reliable."

This award also builds on Capella Space's existing relationships with U.S. government agencies such as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), U.S. Navy, U.S. Space Force, and NASA.
