General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a not-to-exceed $116 million undefinitized U.S. Navy contract modification for work in support of Virginia-class submarines.

The work will involve manufacturing of Virginia payload module and South Dakota insertion prototype materials.

Work will be performed in Indiana, New York, Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Illinois, Washington and Maryland.

The job is expected to be completed by November 2019.

Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity.

Virginia-class nuclear-powered boats are the sea service's next generation of fast attack submarines, and are replacing Los Angeles-class attack submarines.

Lockheed Martin gets Canadian submarine contract
Ottawa (UPI) Jul 5, 2016 - Lockheed Martin has been awarded an $11 million contract by the government of Canada to provide fire control system support work for four Victoria-class submarines and land-based team trainers.

The contract includes service and field service support, obsolescence management and technical investigations as requested by Canada's Department of National Defense, the company said in a statement.

The fire control system is essential for submarine weapon firing capability and also provides a tactical picture compilation of all available acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, Lockheed said.

It also includes processing and technology that rapidly synthesizes sensor data, as well as classifying, identifying and neutralizing surface and sub-surface adversaries.

The new contract will involve incorporating additional system integration as well, Lockheed said.

Work will be conducted at Lockheed's facilities in Virginia and Nova Scotia, as well as via field service support at Canadian bases in Halifax and Esquimalt.
