BAE Systems assembling final Typhoon for Oman
Warton, England (UPI) Feb 18, 2016 - BAE Systems began its final assembly for the first Eurofighter Typhoon to be delivered to the Royal Air Force of Oman.

The assembly will begin with integrating the fuselage, wings and undercarriage using special automated alignment facilities. Other assembly stages are to include fitting the fin and foreplanes. BAE Systems Military Air & Information managing director Martin Taylor says the company is on track for its scheduled delivery.

"BAE Systems has a long-standing relationship with RAFO, through its operation of both the Jaguar fighter aircraft and an earlier variant of the BAE Systems Hawk, and we are proud to provide the support required to the Sultanate," Taylor said in a statement.

Oman signed a contract with BAE Systems to produce Typhoon multi-role jets and Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft in 2012. Under the contract, BAE Systems will also provide in-service support for the Royal Air Force of Oman's operational tasks.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multi-role aircraft manufactured by three Europe-based companies, including Airbus Group, Alenia Aermacchi and BAE Systems. The aircraft is designed to have enhanced swing-role capabilities, and engage in both close-range and beyond visual range combat.

Brazil's Embraer reports its prototype KC-390 military transport has performed more than 100 flight hours since resuming its flight test program.

The testing resumed in October of last year following a two-year suspension of flight testing because of government budget constraints.

The KC-390 is twin-jet airlifter capable of aerial refueling. Brazilian news site Defesa Net quotes Embraer as saying it is now expected to receive certification in the second half of 2017.

The Brazilian Air Force plans to purchase 28 of the aircraft, with initial deliveries by Embraer starting in 2018. Argentina, Chile, Colombia and the Czech Republic have expressed intent to buy the plane.

"We are happy with the aircraft, which had good availability for the tests, sometimes making two flights a day," said Embraer Vice President Paul Gaston Silva. "The plane is behaving very well and we were able to cover the entire flight envelope.

"We tested speed limits, Mach number and altitude, and tested all positions of slats, flaps and landing gear. We also made an on-board shutdown, with engine and APU restart. We can confirm all our predictions for the flying qualities and performance."
