Ottawa, Canada (SPX) Apr 19, 2011
Emerson has announced that it is partnering with Sanmina-SCI to build innovative Emerson solar power inverters at Sanmina-SCI's Ottawa, Ontario, manufacturing facility. This will enable Emerson to fulfill Ontario's requirement that technologies used in renewable energy projects be built in that province.

Emerson's reliable, highly flexible inverters convert DC power from photovoltaic arrays into AC power that can be placed directly on the electric grid. The Emerson grid-tie inverters to be built by Sanmina-SCI are designed for utility and large-scale commercial uses.

Production of the inverters will begin this year and may also serve solar energy projects throughout North and South America.

"Emerson is committed to providing high-quality technologies and services to the renewable energy market in Canada, and we are pleased to expand our capabilities in Ontario through this partnership with Sanmina-SCI," said Mark Bulanda, president of Emerson's Control Techniques business and leader of Emerson's solar and wind initiatives.

"We selected Sanmina-SCI based on the company's proven record for quality and because its decades of experience in manufacturing complex technologies matches our long-term experience in renewable energy innovations."

Sanmina-SCI is a global leader in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and supplies mission-critical products for medical, defense and aerospace, telecommunications, clean technology, and other industries.

"Solar energy is a strategic initiative for countries worldwide and is an important growth market for Sanmina-SCI," said Tom Clawson, executive vice president of Sanmina-SCI's Industrial Markets.

"Emerson's market leadership in the solar energy industry, combined with our proven expertise in producing complex, large-scale industrial products, will help meet the rapidly growing needs of Ontario's feed-in-tariff alternative energy program."

Emerson and Sanmina-SCI will participate this week in the second Ontario Feed-In Tariff Supply Chain Forum, held in Toronto, April 19-20. The event will bring together key industry players and regulators to discuss issues facing Ontario's wind and solar industries.
