Harris replacing satellite communications terminals

As many as 80 strategic satellite communications terminals are being replaced by Harris Corporation under $45 million in U.S. Army task orders.

The orders for advanced satellite communications terminals comes under the 2009 U.S. Army Modernization of Enterprise Terminals program, or MET, an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.

Under this latest order, Harris will supply additional terminals, including large fixed X-/Ka-band terminals and small fixed X-/Ka-band terminals. Common electronics equipment, spares and engineering services to support the installation and test of the terminals and operator training are also provided for.

Terminals being replaced are AN/GSC-52, AN/GSC-39 and AN/FSC-78 and other aging strategic satellite communications terminals.

"MET represents the state-of-the-art in strategic, multiband terminals, which will provide communications reach-back capability to decision makers in the U.S. for military personnel deployed worldwide," said Ed Zoiss, president, Electronic Systems, Harris Corporation. "The MET terminal provides the warfighter with high-performance, cost-effective solutions for their military satellite communications needs."

Harris said the replacements are already taking place at locations around the world.
