Irvine, CA (SPX) Nov 03, 2010 Intellian has announced that one of its i4 satellite TV antennas remained operational following a fire that engulfed a customer's fishing boat. Earlier this year while tied at dock, the fishing boat of an Intellian customer caught fire and was completely engulfed in flames. Although no one was hurt in the incident, the boat was severely damaged. Intellian requested the antenna from the customer to better understand the extent of the damage and how it endured the extreme heat with the intent to use the information to further improve its design. Upon receiving the i4 from the customer, Intellian's R and D department conducted a thorough inspection. While the heat inside the antenna had reached over 300-degrees, hot enough to begin melting the plastic cap on the top of the antenna feed horn, when connected to a power supply, the unit located a satellite and operated - flawlessly. "Reliability is a cornerstone of Intellian's design philosophy," said Eric Sung, president and CEO of Intellian. "We are so pleased that our i4 is capable of withstanding this degree of devastation and remain fully functional. We are also very happy that no one was hurt in the fire and in appreciation for our customer's willingness to let us evaluate his antenna, we will replace it with a brand new i4 when he gets his new boat!" Engineered and built for reliability, all Intellian systems endure over one hundred environmental tests matched to the most stringent military standards, including extended trials in extreme sea conditions and operation tests with numerous satellite service providers.
