In an unprecedented move, King County Metro (Metro) granted Urban Solar a decade-long contract to provide solar LED lighting solutions for its transit shelters and stops. The relationship began in 2011 when Metro signed Urban Solar on for a five-year contract for its PV-Shelter solar systems. Urban Solar was able to transform Metro's flat shelter roof solar lighting systems and implement a solar lighting system to custom fit Metro's new barrel roof architecture. King County Metro is one of the 10 largest public bus agencies in the United States, with 8,000 bus stops and more than 1,800 shelters. Its extensive service area demands upkeep in product, technology, and service, and looked to Urban Solar to once again fulfill that demand. This time, for 10 years. Urban Solar's PV-Shelters have powerful bright white LED technology and intuitive power management with their Energy Control Modules. They provide a safe and comfortable waiting environment for bus riders. "We have enjoyed working with King County Metro all these years and are thrilled to continue that relationship for another decade," says Urban Solar President Jeff Peters. "The Pacific Northwest can be seen as a challenging solar environment due to its grey weather and long rainy season. This 10-year contract says volumes about our systems' powerful technology." "For years, Urban Solar's lighting systems have helped us provide safe and reliable lighting for transit riders all throughout the region," says Dale Cummings, Senior Transit Planner with King County Metro. "We trust their team to design and implement the best products on the market, and provide excellent customer service, and are very pleased to sign them on for another 10 years." Urban Solar manufactures solar power systems and commercial LED lighting solutions for applications including transit, transportation, parking lots, pathway and general illumination applications. With more than 75 years of design and manufacturing experience, Urban Solar delivers the highest level of solar powered LED illumination in an integrated, reliable and customer focused design.
