The start-up of MegaCell production for BiSoN bifacial high-efficiency N-type monocrystalline cells is ongoing as planned. MegaCell, the 100% subsidiary of MegaGroup srl, as announced last year, has revamped and upgraded the former Helios Technology?s production plant located in Carmignano di Brenta (PD) in order to produce the innovative BiSoN bifacial cell, applying the technology developed by the German Research Institute ISC Konstanz. The upgrade had involved mainly the passivation and diffusion processes. Now, after only one month from the kick-off of regular production, the results are more than encouraging, considering that the reached efficiency is already over 20% on the front side and the bifaciality factor is around 90%, thus even more than expected. The ISC and the MegaCell Teams have efficently co-worked to get this important milestone. Production keeps ongoing as per the ramp-up schedule, which expects the start-up phase to end in june, thus reaching the full production capacity (80 MW/yr) and the targeted average efficiency (20,4% on the front side). At the same time, TUV Rheinland (Germany) is carrying out the certification of the new bifacial module, made of 60 BiSoN cells laminated under the glass-glass technology. The BiSoN module has an equivalent power of 350We (Watts equivalent) thanks to a 25+ % back side energy contribution that is added to the front side power of 280 Wp. The MegaCell's investment amounts to over 10 Euro millions, giving again life to a production site that proudly represented Italian PV innovation during the last 30 years. "I am proud to confirm that I have fulfilled the project of recreating a cuttin-edge centre of photovoltaic excellence right where I started in 1981 with the Helios Technology foundation" says Franco Traverso, Chairman of MegaGroup. "Together, with both MegaCell and MegaEngineering the target is to quickly achieve the competitiveness of Photovoltaic energy Vs the fossil fuel energy in many areas op the Planet. As a matter of fact, high-efficiency bifacial PV does allow the reduction of LCOE, the true cost of KW, thus strongly increasing the convenience to adopt solar energy worldwide , in particular in Emerging countries."
