A Lockheed Martin surveillance and explosive hazard detection sensor system for Army vehicles is set to become standard equipment for MRAPs.

More than 1,000 of the Gyrocam vehicle optics sensor system, or VOSS, have been deployed on U.S. Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles since 2006 and with recently Milestone C certification from the military it will become the program of record for MRAPs.

"For more than eight years, Lockheed Martin has supported the urgent operational needs of the U.S. Army with VOSS' mission-critical surveillance capabilities," said Dana Rocca, turreted systems director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "It has been through close partnership with the U.S. Army that we were able to achieve this important milestone and keep vital technology in the hands of the warfighter."

VOSS is a mast-mounted 360-degree sensor system for route clearance and reconnaissance missions. Its high-resolution color, night vision and thermal sensors are housed in a stabilized 15-inch turret.
