Piaggio Aerospace rolls out new multi-role turboprop
by Richard Tomkins
Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UPI) Nov 16, 2015

Piaggio Aerospace says the plane is suitable for maritime patrol, tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and other military missions.

Italy's Piaggio Aerospace has rolled out its prototype multi-role patrol aircraft being developed with Abu Dhabi Autonomous System Investments.

The turboprop aircraft is an evolution of the company's P.180 Avanti, featuring increased wingspan, a larger horizontal tail, larger capacity fuel tanks and more powerful propulsion system.

It is also equipped with SAAB's Albatros Mission System and Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion Avionic Suite.

Piaggio Aerospace says the plane is suitable for maritime patrol, tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and other military missions.

"We are very pleased about this step ahead in the MPA program, as we consider this new aircraft as a key strategic asset of our product portfolio," said Carlo Logli, chief executive officer of Piaggio Aerospace. "In the very near future, we will be able to offer an integrated range of manned and unmanned solutions, tailored on the needs of each customer, boosting unique capabilities, and able to match the growing and sophisticated demand of security of many nations."

Announcement of the aircraft's roll out in Italy was made at the Dubai Airshow, where a ground demonstrator was on display.

The aircraft is soon to begin ground and aerial testing.
