Raytheon has been awarded a fixed-price contract with options totaling $19.9 million to supply the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) with PhantomIRxr thermal biocular systems.

Raytheon will supply the FDF with systems and spares along with a maintenance package. Delivery will begin in 2011 and continue through 2014. Work will be performed at Raytheon's Network Centric Systems (NCS) site in Richardson, Texas.

Following a competitive procurement, Raytheon's PhantomIRxr system proved its capabilities in the field trials. Raytheon's light-weight, rugged system provided the most advanced capabilities and best value to the FDF.

Raytheon's PhantomIRxr system is an innovative, man-portable thermal biocular, weighing less than 3.6 pounds with batteries, that functions as a surveillance and targeting system.

"Raytheon is proud to provide this proven and innovative solution to the FDF," said Ryan Vincent, International Product Manager. "The PhantomIRxr is one of the most fielded handheld, high-precision, low-cost, infrared systems in the world."

The PhantomIRxr, designated as AN/PAS-28, is the same battle-proven, state-of-the-art equipment that the U.S. Marine Corps has used since 2009 in the Medium Range Thermal Biocular (MRTB) program.

The system has integrated image/video capturing capability, an integrated laser marker, and utilizes the latest uncooled thermal imaging technology. The system allows users to perform search and high precision targeting through darkness, smoke and dust.
