Reticulate Micro delivers advanced video tech VAST to US Army

Reticulate Micro, Inc., a leader in commercial and defense technology for resilient communications, has announced the delivery of its first government order for VAST, the company's sophisticated video encoding and compression platform designed to operate over virtually any network at the tactical edge.

The U.S. Army selected VAST due to its ultra-low latency, robust security, low SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost), and advanced encoding technology, which enables military users to stream video over previously impractical transport streams.

As a direct streaming solution, VAST provides high-quality video in ultra-low bandwidth environments with the lowest possible latency, without requiring GPU hardware or servers. VAST streams directly in almost any common format and supports video resolutions as high as 8k or as low as 10kbps.

"The feedback from customers has been extremely positive, as we have proven the ability for VAST to stream video at real-time speeds over bandwidth-constrained networks, without compromising visual fidelity," said CEO Joshua Cryer. "We believe this is just the start for VAST adoption into major government programs that rely on high-quality streaming video to enable vehicle and drone autonomy."

Since the beginning of the year, Reticulate has conducted multiple successful demonstrations of VAST to the U.S. government and allied militaries.

Reticulate Micro's real-time software-based encoder achieves much higher efficiency than standard legacy codecs and avoids the artificing and screen tearing that occur at extreme compression ratios.
