Avionics displays by Rockwell Collins are to be built in South America through a manufacturing agreement with Avionics Services of Brazil.

Rockwell Collins said a memorandum of agreement for manufacture of the systems was signed earlier this week at an international air show held in Chile.

"This agreement provides a key, in-country capability of building advanced avionics displays for military aircraft operating throughout Brazil and Latin America," said Rockwell Collins' Alan Prowse, vice president and managing director for the Americas. "This continues to demonstrate our investment and commitment to partner with local companies and transfer technologies to help build the Brazilian defense industry."

Rockwell Collins and Avionics Services had collaborated earlier on the upgrading a C-130H aircraft for an unidentified customer in the region. Rockwell supplied engine instrument, autopilot, navigation, and communication capabilities for the upgrade program, for which Avionics Services was the prime contractor.

Details of the manufacturing agreement were not disclosed.
