Seaspan Corporation, a global leader in independent containership leasing, has entered an agreement with KVH Industries to equip its fleet with OneWeb's advanced low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology. This initiative underscores Seaspan's commitment to delivering shore-like internet capabilities at sea as part of its broader digital transformation strategy, complementing the fleet's existing LEO services.

Seaspan is the first major containership operator to adopt KVH's OneWeb solution, marking a significant step in the maritime industry's adoption of advanced satellite technologies. The integration will bolster Seaspan's connectivity infrastructure, enabling the use of high-bandwidth applications, including cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) platforms that were previously unsuitable for maritime environments.

"Our partnership with KVH for OneWeb services aligns with our strategy of providing a best-in-class communication experience across our fleet," said Garret Wong, Vice President of Information Technology at Seaspan. "This initiative brings us closer to realizing shore-like connectivity at sea while enhancing efficiency, safety, and seafarer welfare."

Adrian Alb, Senior Manager of IT Operations at Seaspan, highlighted the advantages of LEO satellite technology: "LEO satellite technologies have set a new benchmark for vessel communications, offering high-bandwidth, low latency, and reliability far beyond traditional marine satellite solutions. This collaboration with KVH aligns with our goal of enhancing provider diversity and minimizing geographical blackout zones, further bolstering the robustness of our satellite communications infrastructure."

Chad Impey, Senior Vice President for Global Sales at KVH, added, "We are proud to support Seaspan with the planned deployment of OneWeb service and hardware as part of our integrated KVH ONE multi-orbit, multi-channel network solution."

Through this partnership, Seaspan reinforces its dedication to integrating innovative technologies that meet the evolving needs of modern maritime operations.
