Sierra Nevada receives $7.8 million F/A-18 support order

Sierra Nevada Corp. has received a $7.8 million U.S. Navy delivery order for work related to the F/A-18 Hornet.

The ceiling-priced delivery order under a previously issued basic ordering agreement will cover repair of the Beacon Xmtr transmitter assembly used in support of the jet.

Work will be conducted in Nevada.

The expected completion date is December 2017.

Naval Supply Systems Command Weapons Systems Support is the contracting activity.

The all-weather Hornet is used as an attack aircraft as well as a fighter. In fighter mode, the Hornet is primarily used as a fighter escort or for fleet air defense. In attack mode, the jet is used for force projection, interdiction and close and deep air support.
