Ponte Vedra Beach FL (SPX) May 22, 2009 Solar Energy Initiatives has announced that the Company has finalized a contract with a school district in the western United States to install and operate a $6.0 million PV system on school facilities. Solar Energy Initiatives will supply the solar equipment for the installation on the locations within the school district, as well as sell the newly generated solar energy to the school district at a discounted rate compared to the current electricity provider. Solar Energy Initiatives will partner with a major funding source, installing the solar system at no "out of pocket" cost to the school district or municipality. Solar Energy Initiatives will split the revenue of the energy sold to the school district and recognize energy sales over a 20-year period. "We are pleased with our ability to secure and finalize this multi-million dollar commercial contract," stated Mr. Greg Bakeman, President and Chief Financial Officer of Solar Energy Initiatives. "We are excited to complete our first commercial project which will serve as a proof of concept to show the benefits of Solar Energy's low cost, high return solution. This contract serves as a major milestone in reaching our goal of being cash flow positive by the end of 2009." Upon completion of the contract, Solar Energy expects to provide approximately 20% in overall energy savings to the school. The utilization of approximately 5,000 solar panels for the 1 megawatt project is projected to reduce hazardous carbon dioxide emissions by 2,000 tons, annually. "This contract represents Solar Energy Initiatives' first significant deal within the commercial municipalities market," said David Fann, Chief Executive Officer of Solar Energy Initiatives. "Going forward we intend to leverage the same low cost, high return solutions to potential clients in what believe to be mutually beneficial agreements. Based on our Renew the Nation campaign and strong marketing to U.S. municipalities, we have successfully grown our pipeline to over $60 million." Mr. Fann concluded, "The signing of this project is a testament to our strategic business plan that provides plumbing, electrical and general contractors with both the knowledge and necessary tools to be successful as a Solar Energy Initiatives dealer. We are pleased to now have over 65 dealers in our network who have completed our Solar University training program. The Company looks forward to increasing enrollment of our Solar University and providing the attendees the necessary assets to participate in solar projects as this."
