Geneva, Switzerland (SPX) Sep 09, 2010 Teknisolar, UK is due to launch a new high-performance multistack laminator (to be named "Robostak") at the 25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Valencia, Spain. The new patent-pending automated laminator line has been successfully tested with a range of photovoltaic (PV) materials from DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions (DuPont), including DuPont Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) films for photovoltaic backsheets, DuPont Elvax ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) resins for solar encapsulation for glass-backsheet modules, and DuPont PV5200 and PV5300 encapsulants for glass-glass modules. "DuPont is delighted that Teknisolar has chosen to use several core PV materials in its new laminator," said Marco Coletta, market development manger - DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions. "This continues to reinforce that innovators in the value chain trust DuPont to provide advanced materials and expertise that will help them succeed. It is through these types of collaborations that the PV industry will achieve grid parity faster." The use of photovoltaic materials from DuPont in the production of PV modules enhances the efficiency and lifetime of PV cells and modules, and can help lower overall system costs. By using Tedlar PVF films, Teknisolar has chosen the industry standard for enabling UV and weather-resistant backsheets. Elvax EVA resins help cushion individual cells from impact and enable sunlight transmission. DuPont PV5200 and PV5300 encapsulants offer proven safety and laminating performance in glass-glass modules. "At Teknisolar, we see this as an excellent opportunity to work with DuPont to deliver new innovation in photovoltaics," said Vittore De Leonibus, chairman and founder of Teknisolar. "Our system offers a step-change in module assembly and contributes significantly to reduce lamination costs." The new Teknisolar equipment enables manufacturers to achieve significant cost advantages in producing large volumes of photovoltaic panels at low cost of ownership. For a 50 MWp line the total cost of lamination (investment depreciation, space, consumables, maintenance, utilities and other operational expenses) is capped at 0.01 EUR/Wp and it decreases further with larger manufacturing unit sizes. The laminator's capacity is from 15 to 150 panels per hour (300 PV panels if the size of the panel is small), and all PV panels can be laminated simultaneously, with a single person for supervision. Teknisolar is a UK-based organization founded and chaired by Vittore De Leonibus, former vice president of engineering at NSG/Pilkington Group with 35 years of experience in glass lamination. The company is dedicated to the development of advanced, fully automatic static and dynamic photovoltaic laminators. Located at the Daresbury Science and Innovation Centre in North West England it designs, manufactures and builds fully-automated high performance PV laminators.
