Solutia has announced that it will be supplying Therminol VP-1 synthetic heat transfer fluid for Solnova 4, a new 50 MW concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in Sevilla, Spain managed by Abener. Solnova 4 is one of several solar plants which will be located at Abener's Solucar Platform complex and is scheduled to begin producing electricity in 2010.

Abener had previously announced selecting Therminol VP-1 for a new 470 MW hybrid solar plant in Ain-Ben-Mathar, Morocco and a 170 MW hybrid solar plant in Hassi R'Mel, Algeria. Both of these plants have 20 MW each of power output capacity from the CSP plants. Abener has chosen Therminol VP-1 for all of these projects due to its superior ability to meet demanding requirements of high temperature systems and Solutia's more than 20 years of experience in solar projects.

"Therminol continues to be selected for these projects reinforcing the confidence that Abener has in Solutia as a trusted supplier while demonstrating the commitment that Solutia has to Abener and others in the rapidly growing solar industry," said Solutia's Richard Altice, Vice President of Commercial Services, Technical Specialties.

Solutia's Keith Pearson, Global Supply Chain Manager, Specialty Fluids added, "CSP projects, with their large scale and dynamic project schedules, require global supply chain expertise and flexible manufacturing capabilities. Solutia has assembled a world class team which continues to demonstrate the ability to meet these challenges head-on."

Therminol heat transfer fluid is used in the trough-shaped mirror assemblies to absorb concentrated sunlight and heat up to about 400 degrees C. The heated Therminol is used to generate steam that drives power generating turbines.

Solutia offers a worldwide network of product supply by manufacturing Therminol on four continents and offers an unmatched worldwide network of technically skilled Therminol fluid specialists to provide expert service and support. Solutia is the world leader in synthetic heat transfer fluids, providing nearly 45 years of excellence in technical support, customer service, performance and innovation.

Abener, which is affiliated with Abengoa, provides integrated and innovative solutions in the field of energy by means of promotion, financial procurement, engineering, construction and exploitation of new power and industrial stations as well as the optimization of existing ones.

Abener, which is in four continents, provides solutions for sustainable development, with a clear orientation towards the client and efficient management of projects.
