Saudi Arabia's National Guard is receiving a precision ground approach radar to support its aviation mission from Exelis of the United States.

The contract for the air traffic management capability was issued by the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., and is worth $9 million.

"This award deepens our important relationship with Saudi Arabia and the wider region," said Dave Prater, Exelis vice president and general manager of the Exelis radar, reconnaissance and undersea systems business. "As a leader in the growing field of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and analytics, Exelis is committed to supporting our international customers' evolving missions with these types of critical capabilities."

Exelis said that under the order, it will supply its GCA-2020 system, a solid-state, electronically scanning radar with three integrated functions. Those functions are: primary surveillance, secondary surveillance and precision approach.

A timeline for delivery of the system was not disclosed.

Exelis has received a dozen international orders in the past nine months for its air traffic management radars. Countries receiving company systems include Poland, Sweden and Estonia.
