United Launch Alliance's second Vulcan rocket successfully lifted off from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 7:25 a.m. EDT on Friday, following a short delay due to a countdown sequence issue. The launch, originally set for 6.30 a.m., was rescheduled to 7:25 am after adjusting the countdown sequence.

This mission is part of a critical certification process with the U.S. Space Force, and while many details of the flight remain confidential, ULA President and CEO Tory Bruno hinted at the secrecy on social media, saying, "Highly proprietary, secret sauce. It's going to be awhile before we share more."

The Vulcan rocket's payload will help gather important data for future Centaur 5 demonstrations and experiments, with particular focus on how the Centaur 5's upper stage performs at low temperatures in space.

"We'll also have experiments attached to this inert payload that will help us understand how to extend the duration of the upper stage and what the practical limits to that might be in the future," Bruno explained.

ULA streamed the launch live and will continue to provide updates via its blog as the mission progresses.
