Noor Energy 1, the joint venture between ACWA Power and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has appointed Advisian, the global consulting firm of WorleyParsons, as Owner's Engineer for the concentrating solar power (CSP) fourth phase (DEWA IV) of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. The 700MW project will be the largest of its kind in the world.

As an Owner's Engineer, Advisian will protect the owner's interests by ensuring all contractors are adhering to project specifications. In this role, Advisian will provide a review of the basic and detailed engineering, manage technology risk and provide technical support as required for the Factory Acceptance Tests during the construction and commissioning of the plant.

Advisian will deliver the project using a specialised CSP technology team based in the Renewable Energy Center of Excellence in Madrid, Spain, with support from Shanghai-based engineers, to interface with the power block design. The company will also draw on the Dubai office for site supervisory support.

"With our staff having been involved in half of all CSP projects globally, we are excited to work on this project that, combined with solar PV, will provide solar electricity around the clock at a cost that is competitive with conventional power in Dubai," said Andrew Wood, Chief Executive Officer, WorleyParsons.

"Our recent work in solar, floating offshore wind, microgrids and green hydrogen is directly aligned to our organisational strategy. This partnership between Noor Energy 1 and Advisian further demonstrates our shared organisational commitment to paving the way forward for the renewable energy sector," added Tony Frencham, Group Managing Director for Power, WorleyParsons.

"We're indeed proud of our cooperation and integration of the Advisian CSP Center of Excellence with our project company team for the design and engineering of the world's largest CSP Project," commented Abdulhameed AlMuhaidib, Executive Managing Director of Noor Energy 1.

"We're confident that such a partnership will be the key for overcoming the most important milestone of the project and successful delivery of the fourth phase of Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park on time."

Denver takes big step on renewables
Washington (UPI) Jul 18, 2018
A commitment from Denver's mayor to use renewable energy for all city facilities by the middle of the next decade is a win for the state, advocates said. In his annual State of the City address from earlier this week, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said he would move to abate the risks from climate change with strong renewable energy commitments. "We're going to lead by example by moving our city facilities to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2025," he said. Step-by-step benchma ... read more
