Sydney, Australia (SPX) Jul 11, 2024

The recent test flight of the SQX-1 Y8, a commercial carrier rocket developed by the Chinese private aerospace firm i-Space, ended in failure on Thursday.

The rocket launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 7:40 am Beijing Time. Shortly after liftoff, the SQX-1 Y8 exhibited abnormal performance, leading to an unsuccessful mission.

The SQX-1, also known as Hyperbola-1, is a small solid-fueled carrier rocket designed for the commercial satellite market. It stands approximately 20 meters tall and is capable of delivering a payload of up to 260 kilograms to low Earth orbit.

i-Space, officially known as Beijing Interstellar Glory Space Technology Ltd., is one of the leading private space companies in China, focusing on the development and launch of commercial rockets.

An investigation is currently underway to identify the cause of the failure, with a detailed analysis expected to provide insights into the issues encountered during the flight.
