Forcing Mismatched Elements Together Could Yield Better Solar Cells
Ann Arbor MI (SPX) Sep 10, 2010
In what could be a step toward higher efficiency solar cells, an international team including University of Michigan professors has invalidated the most commonly used model to explain the behavior of a unique class of materials called highly mismatched alloys. Highly mismatched alloys, which are still in the experimental stages of development, are combinations of elements that won't natura ... more

Three-Quarters Of New PV Systems Worldwide Were Installed In The EU In 2009
Brussels, Belgium (SPX) Sep 10, 2010
In 2009, newly installed photovoltaic (PV) cells world-wide produced a peak amount of electricity estimated at 7.4 GW, out of which 5.8 GW was located in Europe. Similarly to previous years, this shows the EU's dominance, where more than three quarters of the world's new solar systems were installed. By the end of 2009, Europe's cumulative installed PV electricity generation capacity (exis ... more

Ontario Solar Market Booms But Local Sourcing Mandate Could Limit Growth
El Segundo CA (SPX) Sep 09, 2010
Aggressive government incentives are set to trigger booming growth in solar installations in Ontario, Canada, in 2010-but regulations requiring the use of locally sourced photovoltaic (PV) products will cause the expansion to slow dramatically in 2011, according to market research firm iSuppli Corp. Ontario's PV solar technology system installations are expected to rise to 257 Megawatts (MW) in 2010, up 272.5 percent from 69MW in 2009. However, installation growth will slow dramatically in 2010, r ... read more
